Hiking season has arrived! If you haven’t been to Mt. Palgong yet, why don’t you try this autumn? As well as the Mt. Palgong has many beautiful trails, it also has the very popular tourism attraction called Gatbawi. Gatbawi is a 4 meters tall Buddhist statue with the hat (thick flat stone) on his head. It is well known as a miraculous Buddha stone, which makes a response to prayers if the prayer prays for it.

I would like to introduce how to get to Gatbawi from Gyeongsan area today. There are two ways to get to Gatbawi: one is from Daegu and another one is from Gyeongsan.

To get to Gatbawi from Gyeongsan, you should take 803bus. I took a bus in Hayangeup, Gyeongsan-si. (in front of Geumrak Elementary School Bus Station). The last stop of the 803 bus is Gatbawi stop and it takes about 30 minutes from Hayang. (If you want to leave from Daegu, take 401bus at Ayanggyo subway station.)

When you arrived in the Gatbawi bus stop, you will see a gate and a supermarket looks like a souvenir shop. You can buy some snacks and souvenirs here.

There’s a small temple called Seonbonsa in front of the bus stop. The big bell at the temple was impressive.

From here to Gatbawi, it takes only about 30 minutes by walk. On your way to Gatbawi, you will run into some trails to other small temples. If you want to explore more about Korean temple, I suggest you to take some small trails and explore the temples.

You should take steep stone steps from here.

If you keep walking, you will see this sign. You should take the trail to Gwanbong(관봉) to get to Gatbawi. The other way is Dongbong(동봉) which is a very tough course, taking 4 to 6 hours to climb.

When I arrived at Gatbawi, a lot of prayers were praying in front of it.

The view from the top was awesome even though it was raining. I had some seafood pancake and makgeolli on top of the mountain. The sound of rain and makgeolli made me relaxed.

I will introduce how to get to Gatbawi from Daegu next time. Hope you enjoy beautiful autumn in Mt. Palgong.
